Photos & Video: SERYN Live at St. David's Episcopal Church in Denton

Our newest addition to the Spune family, Seryn, played a unique show at St. David's Episcopal Church in Denton over the weekend. Joined by Robert Gomez and Sarah Jaffe, the three acts contributed what the Dallas Observer called "uplifting and tender sets". The Dallas Observer plans to cover more on the show this week so make sure you pick up a copy (or read online) on Thursday.

To give you an idea of how gorgeous this evening was, watch the video below, and check out the photo slideshows from Dallas Observer and Pegasus News.

Photos: Telegraph Canyon's Sold Out Fort Worth Show

Telegraph Canyon played Lola's Sixth in Fort Worth over the weekend like they have so many times. Only this time, records were set all around. The show sold out one hour before the band took the stage! Sorry to those who were not able to get in. Chatterton and Glen Farris played fantastic sets! Thanks to everyone for your support! You made it an amazing night!

Thanks to Neff for the great photos and show recap. Check out more here.

Doug Burr's On Promenade "Best Area Album Release of the 00's" / Burr Talks About The New Record

Dougburr_cover

"On Promenade" - Best Area Album Release of the 00's - Dallas Observer

Each listen to On Promenade has the potential to leave you in a state of visceral reaction. Over the course of 11 songs, singer-songwriter Doug Burr wades with distinctive voice, guitar and various instruments between love, loss, simple beauty and historical disaster. But, despite the weight of the topic, Burr's monumental achievement is somehow developing each song into a perfectly dynamic composition from instrument to harmony without ever overworking a theme, a word or a bridge. A cohesive album from start to finish, On Promenade is oddly hard to assign genre or reference-it is its own very emotional victory.

Doug Burr's 2009 release, "The Shawl" also received the #7 Best Local Album of the Year by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Dallas Observer picked "The Righteous Will Rejoice" from The Shawl as #19 in their "Best 40 Local Songs in Dallas Music, 2009"

The Making of Doug Burr's New Record - A look into the making of Doug Burr's new record at Ramble Creek in Austin. This will be the follow up full length record to 2007's On Promenade. Album title, cover art & free mp3 available Feb 1. Look for a Spring 2010 release.

Telegraph Canyon Charts Several '09 Best Of Lists

It seems these lists just keep coming out. We may not have caught all of them (lots of blogs out there mentioning the album), but below is a quick recap of what praise Telegraph Canyon received for the release of "The Tide and The Current".

We are pretty happy with this list. We were also happy to co-release the record with our friends at Velvet Blue Music. Thanks to Will Johnson and Britton Beisenherz at Ramble Creek Studios for their efforts in making this music shine. Thanks for everyone's support in buying the record and going to see the band at shows! If you have not experienced this music yet, you may order The Tide and The Current on CD and LP at the Spune Shop or download it at iTunes.

"The Tide and The Current" #1 Album of The Year
Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Real Roots (Netherlands)

"Shake Your Fist" #1 Song of The Year  - Dallas Observer

"The Tide and The Current", Best Area Album Release of the 00's - Dallas Observer
"The Tide and the Current is a grabbing listen, thrashing listeners about at times, slowly coasting them along at others. Credit Centro-matic's Will Johnson and his production for pulling this record out of the Fort Worth seven-piece, but only so much: It's head songwriter Chris Johnson who truly shines here, his affecting Texas/Louisiana drawl serving as the compelling centerpiece amidst an album filled with opulent instrumentation and impeccable beyond-local-comparison arrangement."

Top 10 Best Concerts - #3 Telegraph Canyon / Old 97's at Ball Performance Hall
- Dallas Observer
"In the cavernous 2,000-capacity room, which normally plays home to operas and symphonies, Telegraph Canyon enraptured the slow-arriving audience with its carefully arranged, delicately preformed baroque rock; Chris Johnson's voice trembled throughout the 11-year-old performance hall and the band's music slowly built to crescendos that crept up to the rafters and wormed their way into the compelled crowd's guts. It was an impressive debut for the band in a room such as this--something culled as much from the jaw-dropping performance as from the crowd's enthusiastic applause at the end of each song."

#2 Album of The Year - Pegasus News and 102.1 (Clear Channel) The Edge

#10 Top Texas Album of The Year - KERA (NPR)
"pigeonhole-defying band that fuses brooding urgency with an ethereal intimacy
reminiscent of the Flaming Lips."

Top 10 Album of The Year - Fort Worth Star-Telegram

DFW.com (FW Star-Telegram) Top Stories of 2009 - "The Rise of Telegraph Canyon"

#6 Album of The Year - Radio Free Silver Lake

"Old Dark Hymns" and "Shake Your Fist" local songs of the decade - Fort Worth Weekly

Top music enjoyed in 2009 next to Thom Yorke, Avett Brothers, Atlas Sound.
- D Magazine's Zac Crain
"It would be a tragedy to misjudge their brilliance based upon anything you think you know for in that moment lies the balance between what is and is not dead. Check them out the next time they come to smash your village." - Branton Ellerbee / Zac Crain
